Hey Folks!

First off, I'm wrapping up the artwork for the latest Possessed by Paul James album to be released on Hillgrass Bluebilly Records. After that I will be working on a couple Soda albums! I will also start work on the Whalebone Farmhouse cd sleeve and some more posters from them.

In the meantime, my Goddamn Gallows/Los Duggans poster and my Scott H. Biram poster AND my Black Diamond Heavies poster all made it to the Poster of the Day section on gigposters.com.

The first time I heard Tom V. was "Johnny McCrae" on a mix disc a buddy of mine from the UK sent me, I then set out to find every single release from Tom and luckily when he came to play a show for me at the Brass Rail he gave me all of them. I'm super glad that I got the chance to work on this album for his next HBR release.

While talking family with one of the members of the Sundresses, I mentioned how Cela was starting to draw "posters" as well and he said "have her do our next one." So we did, she spent many days drawing up concepts and ideas and redrawing and redrawing. Finally, we came up with these two piece and put them together.

Hillgrass Bluebilly re-releases Left Lane Cruisers' Gettin' Down On It

So, HBE is re-releasing LLC's second album Gettin' Down On It. I originally worked on the artwork years ago when I first met Brenn and Joe. Brenn had most of the work done, I just had to put things together for print. Well here is the "re-vamped" cover... basically I added the new HBE logo to the front. I re-typed the info on the inside and made it look more professional.

As I grew into a better graphic designer I realized I really screwed the pooch on this one and was glad to have to opportunity to redo it and show that I've advanced my skills.

What happens when it's 4 in morning, you're searching for inspiration and you're listening to the Whiskey Daredevils while you watch family guy!? Pretty much what you see here... the Whiskey Daredevils have a song called Planet of the Apes and use the Easy Rider with an ape head... long story short, while trying to figure out how to use the Planet of the Apes theme Family Guy cut to a shot of Conway Twitty from Hee-Haw, I liked the jacket he was wearing and decided that it would be a cool concept. I couldn't find Conway in a decent jacket so I searched for Buck Owens and found this shot of him, added the ape head with aviators and BAM! here it is. The large star design also came from a Buck Owens poster, I just took it a step further.

Here is how I came up with the Ape/Buck picture.

So, after reading some online tutorials on illustrator, I decided to implement some of the shading techniques on this poster. However, when I reduced the resolution and size it completely took all the shading out. I drew the octopus a few nights ago and knew it would look good for this flyer.

Not a huge deal by any means as they didn't pay me for it, but with all the album artwork that has been denied by Patrick at Alive for Left Lane Cruiser... it's nice to know that he actually likes something I've done.
